Any updated info on when 5.4 will be ready?
We are close to finish preparing our store but if next release is expected soon, we would rather wait.

I too would like to know. The beta for 5.4 has been out for a while, but we are a live site, so a beta is not an option.
Some of us have been waiting for the kitting feature for nearly 6 months. Hopefully if enought of us chime in, the release might get bumped up a little on their priority list:)

5.4 is not ready yet. It will be ready when it's ready. That's as close as I can get at this time.

If I the bv 5.4 version when it is ready, do I automatically get the 5.4 service pack as well?

5.4 will be a free upgrade to all BV Commerce 5 customers. It is currently in a public beta test and should be ready in September.
