Why don't new customers see a "Register Here" type link in Checkout?

By default, when a new user (sign out, for example) selects a product and proceeds to the checkout page, I see nothing linking them to the ability to create a new account. There is a login for existing users on the Checkout page, but no link to create a new account.
Here's the fun part - if, from the checkout page, you go to the login.aspx page and create a new account, for your loyal effort you come to this:
"Order History No Orders Could Be Found. Start Shopping »"
I'm glad BV lets unregistered users order, but what about those who might want to register? |

No need to go to all that added code -- you can require any user to go to the login page BEFORE the checkout page -- it's already built in -- Workflows -- Checkout Started -- make sure the "Require Login Before Checkout" is added to that workflow |

Birdsafe is correct. If you want to require all users to sign up, that is the easier route to go. If you want to provide your customers the option, adding the code is the way to go.

Just know that you will run into problems if you don't require an acct -- which I never understood anyway, as if people think you aren't "storing" their information -- but if you don't capture their information to contact them, they will bug you about tracking and order fulfillment since they don't have the ability to look into thier account and track their own orders. |

I believe One Page Checkout is better in closing the sale. All information is on one page and customers do not have to go back and forth to see what they entered in previous page. Also if there is a slow connection between pages, they can timeout or they can give up placing the order. I saw that happening quite often. I use One Page Checkout and I never had any problem. I give the option to sign up for an account on my checkout page. Almost half of the customers choose to sign up before they place the order.
