Selecting Check Box in Columns section - Please help

We adding a column to our site as part of the redesign. However, once we have created the new Home Page Column, we return to the main column page to select the check box to activate. However the box is greyed out and cannot be checked. Is there another place that requires updating so that this box can be checked. The checkbox is saying if the column is a system column. That means was this column provided by BV out of the box. |

It was added as a new column right in the bvadmin, all the check boxes on the column page are un-checkable. As opposed to pic i posted with shows them all checked and available. They are no available in our admin.
