What do you tell one customer who says that every page on a site takes 10 minutes to load. No other customers are reporting problems. I'm on the same service that she is (Comcast cable in the same state). She can get to every other site pages fine, including other BV5 sites, other sites with javascript, etc. I've tried to tell her to try turning off any internet security software and/or trying a different browser and she doesn't seem to want to do that.

Anyone else had anything like that?

Thanks

Trying another browser is the best bet. I would understand why she might be hesitant to turn off internet security software. But trying a different browser does makes sense. What specific site are you talking about Joe? May be we can look it up and see what the response time is.

What you might want to tell her is to use Firefox and look at the firebug. However, I am not sure if she can handle that. It depends on her past experience with computers.

Thanks Satya,

It's http://www.birdsafestore.com -- it's any aspx page on the site -- I have a couple of html pages that load fine for her. The only thing I can think of is it might be my Telerk control for the main menu -- but it's not giving anyone else any problem.

She refuses to "add anything else to her compute -- IE works just fine for every other site, so she doesn't need anything else." So I told her she could call orders in, but then she complains that she needs to see what we have -- I bit my lip at that point and said "Okay"

Hey Joe,

Site loads fast. Didnt notice any problem what so ever. By the way, is your home page totally empty or am I not seeing something? Or were you modifying something?
Thanks,

Ah. Now I get some content on the Home Page. I guess you were modifying the content on the Home page. By the way, your home page renders slow now. Its because of the 2 controls you have - the video thingy and the Top Sellers user control. The video thingy is still ok because its give you some kind of a loading indication. But teh Top Sellers is very slow to load. I experienced the same issue on some of my other site and removed the control from Home Page. I am planning to write one of my own that can perform fast.
Thanks,
Satya

Thanks Satya,

Yeah, I have always wondered about the Top Sellers since it's a big pull from the database -- I may have to drop that.

I've been experimenting with the SitePals -- my intent was always to make the site fun and different, and that gives me a great opportunity make changes plus add some "extra" to announcements

Joe, create a content column called "Top Sellers". Create a category called Top Sellers. Assign the "Top Sellers" content column to the Post HTML of the Top Sellers Category.

Make a button or something that advertises the category and place in one of your columns. Will speed up the page load a little bit and you still have the nice feature of a top seller list.

Consider some coding to the top seller control to get some thumbnails in there for the items.

Also, you seem to load a lot of content from other sites. Why dont you load that content asynchronously so that it does not block page load? Just a suggestion. Its not that bad but it definitely is on the slow side. Use firefox and then use the firebug to see the response time for your default page.
Thanks,

Ah, the downside of bells and whistles..... load times.

Joe, your site and any product I go to loads very fast, less than 2 seconds, IE6 and FF - but I've got Fios.

Thanks for the info guys! At least it's working -- I guess I will write that one customer off -- it's amazing how people think we can fix everything for them without having to hire a developer and break the bank for everyone's little problems and desires!
