Minor New Feature I would like to see in next Service Pack

I have started to make use of the Product Properties feature. However i have one big beef with it. I cant use it on Product Variants. I can use it on the parent but not the child products. I use these properties for various things. Mostly for custom plugins. To hold information such as supplier SKU or Special Order item etc...
I have done a fair amount of bug fixes/customization so i know this can't be that hard to implement. Any chance we can get this implemented? It kinda feels like the product properties are only 3/4 implemented.
Kinda off topic, but in the DB there is a field for custom properties as well. What is this for?

You can use Custom Properties basically to store anything you want. So, while you wait for your request to be approved and implemented, you can use Custom properties in the meanwhile. |

How are custom properties set on a Product. I have not found where you set them.
