I am concerned about the the way I see most products displayed on BV sites. I want a page of my products to come up ( no less then 30 to a page) and then I want the customer to be able to order it right there without being taken to a detail product page or going to some type of confirmation page. They should never leave the initial page all they should see is that something was added to their cart. Is this something that can be done? Thanks

Yes, there are several category templates available including those that let customers add items (without choices) to their cart directly from the category page. You also have an option to "Redirect to Cart after adding items" that is turned on by default but is turned off with a simple checkbox.

Ok, the term (without choices) refers to what exactly? One thing that will be necessary is some way to have price levels based on quantity. So a pack of 1pc, or a pack of 12pcs, or a pack of 144pcs. I have a lot of different items on my site. The product is very inexpensive, so people may order 50 different items. With these types of orders you can not make someone bounce through a bunch of screens every time they add something to the cart, We use storefront 5 at the moment. There are no detail pages, all product pages are created on the fly through a search link. Please check out the link and let me know if this can be reproduced in BV. Products that have choices (i.e. size, color, etc.) require user input. An item with choices cannot be added to the cart without these choices selected, as a result the product would be displayed on the category page but instead of "add to cart" it would say "details" or something of the like for the user to click and make the necessary selections.
I have not seen a category display products with choices and users can select on that page (category page) in an OOTB BV store, however I'm sure it can be accomplished with the help of a developer. |

Ok well that sounds like a problem to me. I would call BV to discuss further but I don't see a phone number anywhere on the web site. I did send an e-mail last week, no reply so far. Installation instructions very poorly done. I was not even aware of the online manual till I saw a post about it here. The software may be good but after similar dealings with "storefront" for years. I am already feeling a bit hesitant on BV

I'm a former S'Fer... LOL... never looking back nor comparing the applications.
Plenty of others here, maybe they'll hop in with their thoughts. |

Chris, As Matt said, it's definitely doable (we've done it), but that functionality is not implemented in any of the standard category templates. If you plan to work with a developer to build your BV site it won't be a big deal. |

I am poor. I really do not want to spend a lot of money on a developer. I really would like to get something out of the box. Here is what I want the thing to look like. http://www.jewelrysupply...l/beaver_tail_drops.htmlDoes anyone know of software that will allow me to do that without getting someone in to to do custom coding? Thanks

This would be a great category page format!
I can't imagine calculating volume discounts for too many products though. Currently, you need to set prices manually for each product.
Marcus, time to offer '% off' calculations for volume discounts, no? OR... at least let the volume discounts clone to new products. Better yet, a 'shared choice' volume discount list, sim to modifiers that can be assigned to products. |

Chris,
I had the exact same hesitation moving from SF to BV -- I wanted the add-to-cart ability from the category page. However, after feeling out all the other issues, and after getting customer feedback, I decide that wasn't necessary. The problem with what you are talking about -- and what I saw on my old site - was that the product choices made the category page very cluttered, uneven, and caused more problems than it solved! You can't get enough info to a customer on a category page for them to make a decision about a product with product attributes. |

Joe, I feel fairly strongly about this. My products don't have a lengthy description. All they really need is a title and photo. Making people jump to a singular detail page makes no sense in most cases as they have to then jump back to the category page and then to another detail page. Orders will usually have anywhere from 17 to 100 items. Just think about the ramifications of that for a moment. It is odd I can do this with ancient St****t 5 and not new applications. I have decided to look at other e-commerce software for a fix. I really hate to customize any package if I can help it. Not only for the expense but then their is always an upgrade or a service pack that won't work. Of coarse if the cost was right I would certainly consider customizing. If there are any developers that would like to give me an estimate I would appreciate that.

Chris, you can accomplish this by using the Bulk Order Quantity Grid -- which allows customers to add any number of products in that category from the one page. |
