Is it possible to create a product that has an input field for the customer to input the dollar value they are paying. The reason I am doing this is that we process some donations on behalf of various organizations and the amount of the donation is to be determined by the person making the donation.

I know I can do something like this using the gift certificate module however it would be cleaner if it could be done as a regular product. I could also do it with a product with a value of $1.00 and allow the using to select the qty....500 for a $500.00 donation.

Thanks,

Derek

Derek,

Other than the $1 x quantity idea that you posted, which is what I was going to suggest, I think your only option will be to perform a customization to the core source code. We implemented a quoting system and custom pricing logic on a client site, and I believe that was what we had to do.

Thanks Aaron!

I will likely go with the $1.00 x qty. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.

Thanks for your response...

Derek

Just sell a gift certificate product called "Donation" and don't accept gift certificates as payment. A user determined gift certificate gets you what you want.

Good idea, Marcus! Derek, you will probably need to modify your email template so the gift certificate number is not sent to the customer in the order receipt email.
