I just switched to PayPal's Website Payments Pro (previously used PayPal's PayFlow Pro + PayPal Express).
My currency is set to Can$ in the BV admin...this has not changed.....however when I process a tranasction using the credit card component it processes fine, but does so in US$. However, if I process a transaction for the same product but use PayPal Express for payment method it again processes fine but does so in CAN$.
Any ideas why this would be?
Thanks,
Derek |

What version of BV do you have? When you go to Options->Payments->PayPal->Edit in the admin do you have an option to select the PayPal currency?

HI Marcus,
I am running ver 5.3.2. When I go into PayPal Express, yes it does give the option to select currency...which is set to Can$....it is processing properly in Can$.
I see in the same area it says "Paypal Monetary Format: (Does not apply to Website Payments Pro, and needs to be in the same currency as your store.)
There doesn't seem to be the same option to select currency within the Website Payments Pro area.
Thanks,
Derek |

Hi Marcus, I just spoke with PayPal tech support regarding the currency issue and they said that the credit card transactions are passing a US$ code. I have confirmed that I have selected Can$ in ---->admin--->languages. Please see attached. dcs68 attached the following image(s): bvc currency.jpg (34kb) downloaded 52 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments. Try to login or register. |

Derek,
There were updated in 5.4 for PayPal and I believe the currency code was one of them. Can you upgrade to 5.4?

I can but have been hesitant to because I have a number custom written apps tied into BVC5. I imagine that they would be fine but didn;t want to take the chance unless necessary. Is there any option to change only this payment plugin or do I have to do the upgrade?
Thanks,
Derek |

Hi Marcus,
I just tested processing a payment after upgrading to 5.4 and am still getting the same error that the wrong currency is being passed.
Thanks, Derek |

Hi Marcus,
I just upgraded to 5.5 and am finding that the "PayPal Website Payments Pro" credit card processor/gateway is still processing in the wrong currency. My store is Canadian and set to use Can$ and processes correctly using "PayFlow Pro" and "PayPal Express" but processes in US$ when using "PayPal Website Payments Pro".
Please help!!
Thanks, derek |

Derek,
According to the PayPal developer docs that is the currency code we're supposed to be sending. The docs say that even though there is a currency code parameter, it only accepts USD and we should pass USD even for non US transactions.
Do you have documentation that states otherwise?

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for responding! Sorry, I see I shouldn't note the suject the way I did.....
No, I don't have any documentation that states otherwise however it doesn't really make sense that it would only be passed as US$ if it needs to settle in another currency. How does PayPal Express and PayPal PayFlow Pro work as I would think they function similarily yet they process in the correct currency.
What also doesn't make sense is that I can accept payment in 17 major currencies using the Website Payments Pro so I am not sure how you are supposed to process in the other 16.
Thanks,
Derek |

Derek,
I agree, it doesn't make sense. That's why prior to SP4 we were sending non-US currency codes. But, anyone who tried those transactions with non-US currencies failed. I personally went back and re-read the PayPal docs. They said to always send USD regardless of currency because the API expects USD no matter what currency the account uses.
There are major updates to PayPal that we're working on for SP6 to line up with their new SDK. I hope that their new SDK will resolve this issue this summer.
