Hello,

I have an existing BV 5.3 site that has been running well for some time now. I have just purchased a new copy/license of BV and I want to create an exact replica of my existing site, and use a different URL to access the new store. I have already tried to create a new database and restore the old one over it with a different name and copied all the old site files to the new store directory. BV doesn't like this, as it worked for awhile but has since reset itself and deleted all my data out of the new store and replaced all settings with the out-of-the-box defaults. How can I replicate my existing 5.3 store into a new 5.3 install of BV??

Thx.

I think you were on the right track. Restore the database backup again. Then immediately change the site URL's (BV Admin > Options > Site Settings > Security) and load your new license file.

Andy,

This is what I did and after a week or so after the 5.5 upgrade, BV reverted to all the out-of-the-box settings and deleted all my data (products, categories, etc.).

Hmmm. I don't think BV has any code that can even do that. My guess is that someone inadvertantly restored the database or ran an install script.

Actually it worked for many months Jason. I think about the time BV new maintenance fee requirement went in affect is about the time the site changed. I have both sites under the maintanence agreement so we may need to try again.....

I just do not want to spend hours loading new product and it convert back.

There is nothing in BV commerce that can wipe out the database. There are SQL upgrade scripts but nothing that could automatically wipe a database.

This has nothing to do with the maintenance plan. If I intentionally coded the software to shutdown a store I could be sued for loss of business. I'm neither that mean or foolish. :-)

have you talked to you web host to see if they may have restored your database by accident?
