Hello everyone,
On category browse page there are more than 15 pages for a particular category. But the problem is only products on first 2-3 pages are getting indexed by google and rest are not.
Can anyone please suggest me any solution or guide me on this?
Thanks, Vaibhav

sounds like a lot of products for one category. can you subcategorize? types, sizes, etc. |

Matt - You know a lot more about SEO than I do. Would a sitemap help? |

absolutely. in that light, Wallace's sitemap tool has been awesome. I'm seeing some great crawls as of late.
Subcategories add much more value in terms of logical indexing. if you're at a category level where you have say 15 pages of products.... c'mon... there's room... :)
or, this is a category of products that a drill down search is needed as it could be 15 pages of products that are all connected in some way. Parts for example.
I'd consider bumping the products per page up a bit. maybe it's a 3 x 3 grid. jump to a 3 x 5 or 4 x 4 if space allows. keep an eye on page load time! |

Another issue is the way that BV pages. The first category page is category.aspx while the second page is category.aspx?sortorder=1&page=2 (and then if you click page to page 1 the URL is category.aspx?sortorder=1&page=1 even though it's the same page as category.aspx). This isn't the best construct as the query string seems optional, like a filter, rather than indicating distinct pages. This is further reinforced by the fact that the page title, meta description, meta keywords, <h1>, and just about everything else on the page remain unchanged. This isn't just a BV problem, but it's definitely an SEO issue to contend with. |

And talking about multiple pages with same URL prefix, what about products pages? When you have a product that ends with 4 options, that results in 48 pages for one product!!! IMHO, Google is going to see that as page spamming, and who has the time to go thru each page, one at a time, and create unique metatags, and unique page content so these "multiple pages" do not look like search engine spamming?
Another issue is that we have tied in Stonedge to control our inventory, and this is another issue that when we need to do a price change, 48 instances of one product have to be edited one by one because Stonedge doesn't update the child SubSKUs.
Does anyone have another solution to build a product with multiple options and not end up increasing page exponentially????

BV only uses 1 URL for a product, regardless of the variations. It uses AJAX to update the contents of the page, but the URL never changes. |

Google will follow pages with querystring parameters but they do have a limit. My guess is that after a couple of pages Google is no longer following the querystring page number because they have no idea how far it will go. Probably protection for them against page spamming.
Most customers will not look through 15 pages of products anyways and would rarely see the items. I suggest you follow Matt's idea of creating sub categories to help customers locate the most appealing products quickly.
