Help - This morning site was asking for license file and no one's passwords seem to work

Anyone have any insight as to this weird problem? I'm worried that none of our customers passwords are working. This morning one of our admins logged into our BVSoftware shopping cart and it immediately brought her to a page to enter the license file. Weird. I've never had it do that before. The other three of us kept getting "invalid login" when we tried to login to the site. I found the license file and entered it from the first ladies login (the only person that could login). The rest of us still couldn't log in. From the first ladies login, I changed my password and now can login. I've also tried "forgot your password" on the website and that works as well. So, our customers could request a new password that way ~however, we serve an older customer base and they seem to have problems with that. My Questions: Why would it all of the sudden be asking for a license file? What would have changed that now everyone's passwords are wrong and is there any way to fix this? Thanks, Joyce Davis 479-751-7345 [email protected]

It sounds like your database connection was down and that might cause every login to fail and the license alert to pop up.
Is it possible your store was running on a 30 day trial license instead of your main license?

No, we have been running our store for several months.
The bad news is, this morning it's not letting us in again. Someone from BVSoftware support sent me this email this morning, "I have seen this kind of problem if something fundamentally changes the identity of the computer running your BV installation. It can change the way decryption works, which invalidates all encrypted data (such as passwords). I'm not sure if that's what's happening in your case.
If you are unable to recover your data, I would suggest restoring from backup. Otherwise, you can change the method of hiding your passwords to "hashed" or "clear". This avoids the problem."
I guess I'll try that. Thanks. Joyce

There is nothing in the encryption system that relies on the machine identity. Any changes on the computer will not affect passwords. I suspect that your web site or database server is recycling in the middle of the night and the web site is restarting before the database is available. This can cause the web site to not have the full settings loaded.
The other thing that I have seen as a potential cause is a database that is full and reached it's size limit. In that case you can browse the site but can't add items to a cart or make any other changes.

I seem to recall that when I signed up for the maintenance plan somehow the license information on my site changed and displayed some info from BV Commerce (i.e., Richmond, VA address, and BV email address) and I had to reinstall my license after downloading from my account. |
