I have been previously using a modified version of the Sports Shop theme however Marcus had mentioned that it wasn't upgraded when some changes were made for 5.6.

Yes, all 5.6 themes should have the <asp:contentplaceholder id="headcontent" runat="Server"></asp:contentplaceholder> tag immediately before the closing </head> tag in master pages.

Your current theme is working because you haven't used a feature/page that requires this like the new analytics controls. You should add this tag to your theme.

I have tried adding this tag to all master pages but it doesn't seem to be working. Is there anything else that needs to be added. After adding this tag I was getting:

Cannot find ContentPlaceHolder 'EndOfForm' in the master page '/BVModules/Themes/Sports Shop/Default.master', verify content control's ContentPlaceHolderID attribute in the content page.
