Hello

Signin Page -- Forgot Password, Forgot Userame (Click here)

If I was a returning customer.... and I forgot my Password and Username.. .But I know my email address....

<input onclick="getNext('LoginProblem', 'Username');window.location.href='#Username';" value=Username type=radio name=LoginProblem> I forgot my password
<input onclick="getNext('LoginProblem', 'ForgotUsername');window.location.href='#ForgotUsername';" value=ForgotUsername type=radio name=LoginProblem> I forgot my username

If I was standard customer and had setup an acocunt 9 months ago.... Username, Password, Email Address, Etc..

I am back at the store website ready to buy something and I forgot my username. I know my email address but I can not for the life of me remember my user name.

Is there an option in the system that I can turn on to allow the customer to request a password reset by submitting and email address?

Also to note.... the username field seems to allow spaces... You would think that the validation would restrict this... (just a thought)

David -- this is a big sore subject with me -- part of the problem with BV in this area is if a customer creates more than one account with the same email address -- and I have probably hundreds of entries like this -- and they request a password reset, the program I don't think knows how to send the response -- which account does the program access to get the password reset? In this case the customer doesn't get anything - so we get a phone call (or they just create another account).

What is needed -- for one thing -- is if a customer tries to create an account with an email address that is already in use, then they should be notified of this and not allowed to create another account.

David,

I'm an advocate of using the email address as the username; it solves a lot of problems. We've customized several of our clients' stores to work this way. Back to your original question, no, there is nothing like what you describe out-of-the-box but it could easily be created by a developer.

This is how our checkout works in the Develisys BVC 5 Toolkit. Granted, you can still skirt this by using the regular BV account creation page, though typically we structure our sites to avoid that page.
