slow population of product choices /modifiers

I have a question concerning the delay in BVC 5.6 when using drop-down product choices or modifiers. I have a product, event registration, that has about six criteria that the registrant must answer by way of selecting their seminar choices from drop-down menus. What I am finding is that there seems to be a long delay in having the menu choices take effect... or if I go quickly through the choices and select them one after the other 5 seconds later or so the previous choice will reset itself to the default item making it very confusing for the customer. They could quickly go through and check their choices, get to the bottom and click add to cart, only to be prompted with a field error saying that they didn't make a choice... even though they had in fact made the selections.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks, Derek |

Ajax post backs are probably the cause. This is on the store side, correct?
It means that your web server is taking a long time to respond. There could be many reasons including, slow network connection, bad connection between your computer and the server, overloaded server, overloaded network equipment, more choices/options than recommended causing longer load times before ajax response, etc.
You can use tools like FireBug and YSlow in firefox to help diagnose the exact issue.

Thanks Marcus, I will check those things out...
Yes, this is on the store side.....I have 5 drop down modifiers and 3 text input boxes. I find that by time I get to the second drop down modifier and select the "...Please wait..." message box on the top right of the site can site there for 10-15 seconds.
I am on my own dedi server and everything else seems to be ok performance wise.
Thanks, Derek |

Derek, is your database server on the same box, separate dedi box or shared? |

Hi Kim,
Seems to be running better now....not sure what was up but the post back seems to be 2-3 seconds or so......
I am running on my own dedi server (with Appliedi) and the SQL db is on a separate shared db server with Appliedi...within the same data center.
Thanks, Derek |

Most likely had a bottleneck going to the database at the time Derek. |
