Missing order numbers / skipping order numbers?

We've found on a couple of our BVCommerce sites running BVC 5 SP3.2 that there will occasionally be order numbers skipped.
For example, the orders might go from 5104 directly to 5106, or in some cases might skip a span of numbers like going from 5279 to 5284.
Can anyone confirm if this is normal behavior for BVCommerce? I assumed that it might be due to customers abandoning the process during checkout, but I'm not sure at which point the order numbers get generated. We just want to make sure that our client's sites aren't dropping any sales.

one thing to check is if the "missing" order is still in the store but is now out of the correct date sequence.
I stumbled across a circumstance when an order was edited, the timestamp was updated to the current date & time. Which really is correct as the timestamp is recording the up to the minute status of the order, but it places the order out of sequence as a result.
See if this is happening for you. As for a fix, I believe there was mention of it being fixed in the 5.7 release but I'm not 100% positive it was updated. |

Hi Matt, thanks for the suggestion. Would this just affect the order that they are displayed in the BVC admin area, so that an older order might appear mixed in with newer orders?
I'm actually looking in the bvc_Order table in the database and sorting by OrderNumber desc and there aren't any rows for those order numbers.
Someone suggested that these might be getting cleared out by our nightly cart cleanup, but that only removes carts older than 7 days and we have some of these 'missing' order numbers from just a day or two ago. Also, the Options -> Orders settings have the order number set to "Increment by 1 to 1 for each new order".

jake, this affected orders that were displaying on the Orders page.
I was suggesting that you do a search for order 5105 via the dashboard as it may happen to be there. If so, it was most likely edited and had it's timestamp changed upon saving the edited order which would place it out of sequence on the orders page (which would lead you to believe it's gone).
If it isn't in the DB at all... call in the big guns. |

Is this Technical Questions forum where the big guns hang out?
I found another error in the event logs that looks like it is related:
bvc_LineItem_i line: 32 The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_bvc_LineItem_bvc_LineItem". The conflict occurred in database "BV5", table "dbo.bvc_Order", column 'Bvin'.
It looks like this is preventing an order from getting inserted into the order table. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

We've had a lot of updates in service packs 4,5,6 and 7 since your version. I'd consider upgrading if you have issues.

It sounds a lot worse then what it is... but upgrading will help. We just upgraded from BV5 SP3 within a day. had some minor glitches but its working now.

I've seen skipped order numbers when the credit card fails to authorize. The failed cart remains with the abandoned carts.
