I'm working on getting our Mail Server set up so that it will email our customers with their order confirmations, etc. Our email is set up through Google with Google Apps. Within the BV Admin, under the Options > Mail Server section I have entered our Mail Server, u/n, p/w and set it to Use Basic SMTP Auth.

When using the Send Test Message section, if I send a test to a Gmail account it will send successfully, however when sending to anything outside of a gmail or teamteeshop.com (our website) domain it errors with this message - Test Failed. Please check your settings and try again.

I don't really know much about email so I'm not even sure what this means. Are there some logs somewhere that I could look into?

Does anyone have any clues on this? I called support (BVSoftware) and have yet to receive a call back.

More often than not issues like that will be related to your SMTP server which is why I'm guessing you won't hear much here.. I don't know if this is related: http://www.google.com/su...f41550c7b0362&hl=en. In that thread I see:

You can put what ever you like in your mail client as your email address, as long as your are using google's SMPT server it will include in the headers what ever account's credentials are used to authenticate when sending mail via this SMTP server, and further add those mails to the google "sent mail" folder of that account.

In other words, unlike you standard SMTP server, with gmail, and google apps SMTP server there is no way to have mail 100% sent by an account other than that authenticated, even if the address is a nickname, or a alias domain (see google apps user /domain set up) ... this is the issue we are trying to address .. .and the issue which is probably THE #1 reason NOT to use google apps for your domain(s) email ....

Basically the best solution google offers, is use your own SMTP server

Thanks Shan for the response. I had a strong feeling that it was something to do with the SMTP server through Google. Unfortunately I didn't set up any of our email accounts so I'm not even sure how they are configured. This info at least points me in the right direction, so thanks again.
