I have a product that changed in its description a number of months ago -- retained the Product ID. I just had a customer order the product from their Order History (from before the change) -- and the order comes through using the OLD DEscriptION -- fortunately I process the orders myself so I know what they want, but if some other warehouse person were to get this order, they wouldn't know what to look for.
I think there are some SQL flaws in updating products that need to be addressed. |

The "copy to cart" from order history takes older line items and copies them to the cart. Prices are updated to reflect the current price but description isn't currently updated.
Our recommendation is that major changes in products (such as adding/removing lots of choices) should be handled by creating a new SKU. Most of the time there is a physical change or business change behind the product change and you may find that a new SKU allows you to do more analysis of the business impact of the product change.

Thanks Marcus -- but that gives me yet another "dead product" I have to deal with -- i.e., if I don't delete it, I have to actually set the product to track inventory, set to not allow backorders and set inventory to zero, which then adds it to the already bogged down Low Inventory email that I have to wade through each week. If I dont' set it that way, then customers can still add the item to the cart from past history. If I delete it, then that creates import problems with the Quickbooks sync. |

I've logged your situation as a bug to look into. It probably makes sense to update the description when adding from wish list. I was just trying to provide a work around until we can issue an update for it.
