When customers use Gift Certificates on your website how are you handling the results and reporting to the customer?
It seems that this could be very confusing for the customer thinking their certificates were not applied to the order.
Many of them most likely call in to check on this. Anyway, anyone smoothly handling gift certificate purchases and if so how.
Thanks

Bump...

I want to give away a $5 gift certificate with select products. I got the offer to work, but when does the gift certificate email get sent? I placed an order and never received the code to the certificate. I had to actually email the template. Does this not happen automatically?

I also see the problem of the certificate being applied at checkout. No where does it state there will be a discount.

Yes, but the order must be marked "paid" first.

While I wouldn't say we're handling it 'smoothly', one change we made was to update the [[PaymentMethod]] token to display a comma-separated list of the payment methods used (e.g. Credit Card, Gift Certificate).

On a related note, we have one client that used loyalty points and we overhauled the checkout page and order emails to show the amount they were actually being charged. This is essentially the same use-case as gift certificates.
