What would be really nice is a desktop widget that tells me when new orders arrive -- perhaps even a bit of info, like shipping method, so you know if it's a rush order -- but just the Name, Order ID, Shipping Method, and Customer Instructions. |

Without looking for it... I thought Outlook had an add-on such a thing for emails that were directed to a certain mailbox folder. - or - memory fades with age and there's no such thing. |

I use Outlook to let me know when a new order comes in that needs attention (charge didn't go through, needs installation, etc). I wonder if the new Web Slices in IE8 could do something similar. There are probably many FireFox widgets that will watch pages (like the Orders page) and let you know of any changes. Vista and OS X also have desktop widgets that can alert page changes.
Even with all those options, I suspect a dedicated alerter would be easiest to use. |

I actually have started using Incredimail -- which uses desktop "notifiers" that you can assign to various email accounts -- so I'm using that for new orders. |

This really should not be all that difficult to do what specific fields would you guys like to see on this?
I am thinking perhaps:
Order ID Order Amount Shipping Type
With the OrderID being able to be clicked on to go to the order details page in admin? |

Product(s) and manufacturer would be helpful... some of either of these can be more time-sensitive. Shoving things into the loop in shipping dept. regardless of method, or to get a timely notice to a drop-shipper near the end-of day pick-up deadline. |
