After doing it over and over and over again, i'd like to see a revamp of the page in it's entirety.

I'm not sure how to accomplish it but right now it just takes a long time to add products. I think having the two sections on the same page might be redundant as each time the page reloads, it seems that it has to load the products of the category/manufacturer/type selected twice.

Positioning the upsell or cross sells also adds to the time it takes as again, the page has to reload after one click.

I wonder if seperating upsell & cross sell into two seperate pages would be an easy solution? Additionally, Upsell & Cross Sell on the same page causes confusion, I know this because I've had to walk my clients through the process repeatedly because they can't remember which is which. I keep joking with them to write it down...LOL...

One other request I had was to add the Cross/Up Sell to both products automatically.
If I cross sell B on A, A should automatically be added to B as well.
Now it takes double the time to do cross selling.

I'd like to see an automatic system for rotation as the admin sets it up. Category A to cat B and visa-versa and some products shouldn't be crossed to others - diapers to a tricycle page for example. It can't be hard to set up a 'never category A to category C cross sell' list.

Newer products don't get the cross sell exposure that they deserve unless you spend some serious time sprinkling them around. If you're adding 100 products... yikes. Some older products have items posted as cross sells that just aren't the best choices anymore, but there they sit unless you look at each and every product to see what's showing on which page. Gets stale after a while.

Let's see if I can explain this without a visual...LOL...

1. 2 Products (A & B), both assigned to each other as cross sells (2 additional cross sells on each product = 3 total cross sells per product)

2. I add both products to the cart

3. The cart pulls the 3 cross sells from the last product (B) in the cart.

4. However, the cross sell still displays product (A), which is already in cart

I don't think it should display any products that have been added to the cart.

I delete the last product (B) from the cart.

Cross sells from Product (B) still display, I feel like these should switch to the cross sells of Product (A)

I'd rather save Upsells for "like kind" cart apearances, and Cross Sells for scatter marketting.

Upsells: Display a lens with with the purchase of a camera, or a carry case to go with an ipod. I think of Upsells as an item that accessorizes the product in the cart.

Cross sells: Display a carpet when you buy an end table, or sports jackets when you buy a shirt. This is advertizing less related to the product, but geared towards a "hey, have you seen this stuff?" marketting, last chance effort to fatten the sale.

Matt, a really slick add-on could be made here just for post-cart customer handling. I'd be happy if I could set up a rotating placement scheme for Cross Sells, and an effective use of Upsells - neither of which pisses the shopper off. Tripping over a page of "stuff" while going towards the checkout page is out.

It's a matter of semantics that I think Upsell and Cross Sell are two words that shouldn't be used for the description of the feature. Related Items & Accessories makes it plain and simple. (Similar to your thoughts)

An *intelligent* post/current cart handling of related/accessories is extremely desired, but I think companies like Amazon have a slightly larger budget than us...LOL...

Not arguing against your request, it's just that we (myself included) are looking for amazon-esque functionality in a $499 application.

If BV could be beefed up to intelligently list a related product (cart page) based on the store's entire customer base shopping habits without killing the sell price.... dig in! However, a feature like this should raise the value of the application and I wouldn't flinch at a sell price increase considering the ROI over the last 5 years of using BV.

I probably purchased 50 additional CDs last year because Amazon pulls it off seamlessly. Having this in BV would undoubtedly raise the average ticket and reduce the time spent on manual catalog management.

You still buy CDs? How quaint.

Agreed. A smarter (at least easier to use) cross/up sell is a money maker, not a cost. There are 3 options:

BVC does it,
a third party does it as an add-on,
we do without it.

I'm betting on the later.

yeah, I like having the disc stored away for the inevitable external drive crash. As nerdy as I can get, I like ripping the tunes myself to preserve highest possible sound quality.

And to toot amazon's horn.... the suggested albums are always spot on for alternative bands and styles.

I photocopy every check I write to give you an idea of nerdiness....LOL...

How do you see this smarter CrossSell module? How would it choose the products to cross sell?
Regards,
Corneliu.

Up sells would be pre-chosen as they would be an augmentation to the product purchased, an ice cream scoop to go with the ice cream maker for example. This would need to be done by the admin pretty closely so automation would be unlikely or unused if available.

Cross sells, on a product-by-product basis, would show on the screen as:

#1. products selected from a specific category related to the sold product's category, (if you purchased a Rolling Stones album, you'll like a Beatles album too),
#2. products selected at random from any random category, (true wildcard to get exposure to all products regardless of site-age and relevance),
#3. products selected at random from a set of categories pre-chosen by the admin, (to exclude specific categories by elimination. (See below)
#0. products selected specifically for the product as we do it now. (default) for compatability with db moves during upgrades.

A team's logo T-Shirt might use solution #1 to sell a logo cap.
A coffee shop might like to show other coffees at random, solution #2.
A car parts store selling a set of snow chains might decide not to show items in the car wash and wax category until summer, solution #3.
A respirator company might select the hoses category to show when a hose stand is purchased, and visa versa, solution #1.
Any product can use solution #0 to load only a few specific hand-picked products as we do now.

#3 is important. This will keep Victoria Secrets type (wink) items off of the polite, general apparel product pages.

The logic for selecting point of purchase selling can be roll-off-the-wall simple if we let the admin pre-select categories from which to choose. It can't be that hard to load up a product from an approved list of categories and pump it into the cross sell window, can it? Wouldn't this be about the same as selecting choices and modifiers at the product page load?

Choosing 1,2,3 or 0 (0=default) would be done on the product edit page before going to the upsells/crossells selection page. The up/cross edit page would load depending on the 1,2,3,0 choice.
