I've talked to Marcus about this one before but it may have been forgotten in the mix of all the ideas for BVC6.

BVC5 does not provide any way to handle both trade customers and end-user (consumers) in the same site from a VAT (tax) perspective. The problem is that in the UK, EU and Australia (and perhaps other countries too) it is a legal requirement that the site shows prices including VAT throughout the site (not just at checkout). However when a trade customer uses the site, they expect to see prices excluding VAT and then to have VAT added only when they get to the checkout. When i say "expect" what i mean is that every other website that sells B2B (to trade customers) does it this way. It does not work to show trade customers prices including VAT in the shop - you would not do any business.

The solution is to have an option on the customer account which states a preference of whether to show prices including VAT or excluding VAT. When someone sets up an account it should default to "EX VAT" if they enter a business name. Then the site needs show all prices based on this setting.

Hi Rich,

Not sure we are giving it the correct name, however, we have a "Tax in Pricing Module" that most everyone we have sold it to uses it for the exact situation that you have proposed (for bvc5). While it is currently not "customer" based whether tax is included in the pricing or not is based on customer selection and their selection is remembered in a cookie. You may want to have a look at the demo.

Caplink,
I've tested your Tax In Product Pricing module but I'm not sure how it works.
I went to your Widget A, that has a price of $107.
Then I added it to the cart (still $107), then I try to checkout and I see that I have to pay $100.
Regards,
Corneliu.

Hi Corneliu,
That is actually the result of bv bug that I have reported to marcus at least 12 times over the past year along with the fix for it. It has never made it into their software and I obviously never applied it before setting up that demo site. Thanks for pointing it out. I forgot the exact steps for reproduction now, but it has something to with the cart not calculating taxes when first opened with a certain default country selected or maybe it was if more than 1 country was enabled for a store. But anyway the same problem exists in the base product.

Essentially the reason it is seperated out at checkout is for record keeping purposes. Allows the taxes collected to be itemized seperately on the customer invoice while still seeing their "total" throughout the use of the web site. On th left side there is also a button that toggle whether tax is shown in the prices on the web site or not. The "button" is 100% customizable with html set in the admin of the web site.

I will report back tomorrow on what exactly caused that problem.
