We have Loyalty Points turned on, but are using it in an unconventional manner, only allowing certain accounts to earn any through manual manipulation on our end. Any order placed by any customer is creating a Public Note saying "You Earned x Loyalty Points with this order!" How do we prevent this?

Other than modifying the code, you could hide the public notes.

If possible you should edit your theme's style sheet to hide the public notes. If that's not possible you will need to edit the page(s) and/or control(s) where public notes appear to hide them. Also, public notes should be removed from any email and print templates that currently display them.

So, this public note message is appearing in some orders, but not others:

Originally, we thought there was consistency due to it appearing on orders we zeroed out the cost to on our end. Then, we noticed it showing up on orders with anyone who is in a price group. Further investigation showed that even customers not in price groups, or even registered users, sometimes have this show up in their public note section. There is no consistency that we can track.

We want to use Public Notes to communicate with customers. However, this Loyalty Points message is not needed. We have not been able to locate anywhere in the theme's styles or pages coding that pulls in a message about Loyalty Points earned, or even Public Notes in general.

Can you explain how these messages are created automatically (workflow), and where these call outs/codes would be so we can fix them?

Loyalty points are only earned by customers that have an account. So, if a customer places an order without being logged in then they will not earn any loyalty points.
