When a customer tries to reset their login password they enter their username but get an email error message. The error log shows this...
Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Authentication is required for relay[ at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception) at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message) at BVSoftware.Bvc5.Core.Utilities.MailServices.SendMail(MailMessage m, Boolean async) in c:\workspaces\super8x64\BVCommerce\Main\App\source\BVSoftware.Bvc5.Core\Utilities\MailServices.vb:line 53 ]

It sounds like your mail server settings don't have an authenticated username/password to send email from your site.

Thanks Marcus.
I think that I have it fixed now. It was strange because I did have basic smtp authentication selected and the proper info in there as it also applies (I believe) to sending order receipts and all other outbound email...which were working
On another note I have been getting lots of customers in the past month who are saying that they have not been receiving their confirmation order email receipts...nor are they receiving their tickets that are emailed at the same time (process completed). They strange thing is that every test order I process does result in the proper emails being sent to me....admin receipt, order receipt and tickets
Any thoughts?
Thanks, Derek |

Yep. If you're sending a test to yourself on the same domain as the mail server it will almost always let things through (no relay to another domain). However, when you're sending email to clients (receipts, password reset) your mail server is being asked to relay mail from BV to another server as if it originated on your server. This used to be a great spammer trick.
Pro Tip: Always send test emails to an address outside your main domain.
Setup a free Gmail or Yahoo account to use for testing things like this instead of using an account on the same domain as your mail server.[b]

Great, thanks Marcus. I will test with my gmail account. Any idea why the relay error? Is this something I should take up with Appliedi?
----Sorry, I just realized the test messages I sent are to my @me.com account (Apple) and they came through fine.
Thanks, Derek |

The user reported encountering an email error when attempting to reset their password. They are unable to receive the password reset email , preventing them from accessing their account. The issue persists despite multiple attempts and checking spam folders. Requesting technical support to investigate and resolve the email delivery problem to ensure users can successfully reset their passwords and regain access to their accounts.
