How do I add free shipping as a option along side my UPS rates? We currently offer free shipping on orders above $250 and our UPS rates display perfectly. The issue is that if a customer chooses a shipping rate from the appropriate UPS options 'just to see what the total cost of the order would be' they can't remove the shipping options if they deem the cost to be to high and decide to just go with 'free shipping'. Customers have no way to return their shopping cart to reflect the shopping cart total without the additional shipping cost. The solution should be simple ... just add a free shipping option to display for orders over $250 but when we do that all the UPS shipping options go away and all the customer sees is 'free shipping' defaulted in the cart with no ability to see what it MIGHT cost to send it overnight, 2nd day or 3 day.

The Current 'offer' and settings are;

Shipping Method - UPS
Greater than $250
Less than - $250,000
Use type - Per customer

If you have BVC5, you can use my Shipping Rate Rule Providers to create a "free shipping" method that will appear next to the UPS rates.

Thanks Andy. I purchased the 'Shipping Rate Rule Provider' but I have no way to download it. Is there a download key that you could send along please?

Hello David,

You can download the software from the downloads page or the product page. Note that there are 2 versions: one for BVC5 SP2-SP3.1, and one for BVC5 SP3.2+. Then you can download the license file from the online order details, which you can access from your account page,

I was logging into my account, that you had me set up at checkout, and clicking on the "download files" link on the right that requested a download key. All that comes down is a .executable file with no release notes. Is there online manual that outlines commonly used set-ups or configurations or is it basically trial and error during testing?

To download the software:

* Visit the product page: http://structured-solutions.net/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=RULEPROV-BV5

* Click on the Installation Package that is appropriate for your version of BVC5.

To install the software:

* Run the exe that you downloaded to extract the product files and documentation.

* Copy the files to your website as described in the documentation that is extracted.

To download the license file:

* Visit your account page.

* Display the order details.

* Click on the download button next to the license file.

* Make sure your browser saves the file with the *.lic file extension.

To install the license file:

* Copy the license file to the root or bin directory of your website.

The left column of the product page also has 3 online documentation links. "Installation Instructions" is a copy of the instructions in the installation package. "Release Notes" is mostly for people that are upgrading. "Samples" takes you to a page with several samples. Each sample has video and text showing how to implement a common scenario. The free ground and customer pickup samples are probably closest to what you want.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please send them to support at structured-solutions.net.

Andy,

I can't figure out which rule, if any, should be in the basic BV shipping functionality and which shipping functionality should be built in the Shipper rule provider. The video seems to be of a earlier version of the software given that items in the video appear in either different order in the UI or not at all. All I am trying to do is build Free shipping for orders greater than $250.

Try this:

Create a new shipping method using Order Rules and name it Free Shipping.

Add a new Shipping Cost Rule: When Subtotal is greater than or equal to 250, Cost = 0.
* Change the default Shipping Cost Rule to: For all remaining orders, Hide This Method.

Save the changes and run a test order. Here is what the shipping method should look like:

Here's a video:

If you would like to see context sensitive help while you work on the shipping method, click on the big ? near the top right, as shown here:

And finally, if you would like me to create the shipping method for you, I offer that service:

Andy,

I am on day 2 of trying to figure this out between BV offers, BV shipping methods and now Shipping Rate Provider. Maybe it makes some sense for you to do it given that it will take you all of 10 minutes.

For orders less than $250 there should be NO free shipping option and ONLY UPS shipping methods.
For orders more than $250 there SHOULD be free shipping AND additional UPS shipping methods.

I have disabled all BV offers, removed all BV shipping methods and removed all Shipping Rate Provider methods. Checkout page Shipping currently defaults to "$0.00 - To Be Determined. Contact Store for Details"

My direct line is 281-681-8686.

Andy,

Got it working. We were getting a BV error that we have since resolved and it works beautifully. Apparently that issue was keeping us from ever getting it right. Free Shipping applies to the continental US only but when we remove Alaska and Hawaii from the rule it also removes the UPS rates and leaves us with the 'Call Store for details' message instead of the UPS shipping rates. Will this exclusion require a separate Shipping Cost Rule?

If UPS and Free Shipper are 2 separate shipping methods (appear on 2 separate lines on the Options > Site Settings > Shipping page), then the settings of one will have no affect on the settings of the other. For example, you can define the countries and regions for the Free Shipping method so that it only applies to the continental US. Here is a screen shot of the lower half of my sample Free Shipping method. Note that it only applies to the United States and that Alaska and Hawaii have been removed,

http://screencast.com/t/Jtukw2YV

Since my sample Free Shipping method is defined this way, BVC5 will not even call it if the country and region do not fit the criteria.

But configuring the Free Shipping method this way has no affect on my UPS shipping method which I have configured to apply to all states in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Note that if you have configured all of your shipping methods so that none of them apply to Alaska and Hawaii, then if you use a shipping address in one of those 2 states, BVC5 will display the "ShippingUnknown" site term.

Andy,

For orders that qualify for FREE shipping is there a way to configure BV or the shipping rate provider to default to the FREE shipping option so that customers don't have to select it for orders over the FREE shipping threshold?

Curiously the system presents all the options with no shipping option defaulted forcing the customer to make a choice, even when by rule the qualify for FREE shipping, even after they have decided to 'Place Order'.

I don't know of a way to pre-select a shipping option, but I'm sure other clever folks have done so. Try posting that question separately from this thread so that it is more visible.
