I posted but no replies. I am in dire need of getting this component working. I have a customer frequenting my website and she has been problems since day one. I went into settings>fraud> ban IP> inputted the IP from my store computer and checked it from home. I can still maneuver around the site with the banned IP, so clearly this is not working.

Can someone please help!?

Thank you in advance,

Danelle

In BVC5 SP3 (I did not check previous versions), the fraud checks (including banned IP's) are performed by the "Local Fraud Check" workflow task. Normally this task is included in the "Process New Order" workflow.

If any of the fraud checks fail, the order is marked "On Hold". The customer does not see this, but you can in the order manager.

If you want to block IP's from accessing your site, you will need a different solution. Many hosts offer a blocking feature. That's the first place I would look.

Andy,

Just to more fully understand this... Can a host cull out one single user and show the " You don't have permission to access this page" message? Is the banned IP regional (geographic) by state? How many potential visitors are affected if a ban is put in place? Can visitors from say, Canada be banned if your products can't be shipped internationally?

Mitch - Probably not based on geography. My host does not offer blocking, but when I searched Google for "block certain ip's from site" I found several hits on hosting company websites (eboundhost, dreamhosters, maximumasp,...).

I block some IP's from my site using custom code called from global.asax. If those IP's visit my site I return a 404 Not Found.

There are companies that will help you block IP's based on location. Try searching for "geolocation".
