Is there a place that I can add an option for visitors to choose to have their packages insured?

Thanks
Marie

Hello Marie,

BV does not support Insurance out of the box. But here are several ways existing BV users have handled insurance in the past (as far as my experience goes).

1. Create a product called "Insurance Protection" and then add it as a Cross Sell and related item to all other products. So whenever a user is on the product page, he will see the insurance product as well (if you display related items control on the product page). Also whenever a user adds a product to cart, he will be taken to an intermediary page (as a result of cross sell) and the user can add insurance if he wants to. This is something that you can do yourself.
2. Create a custom mod that checks if user has added the insurance protection to the current order. If so, then you will not prompt the user. If the user has not added insurance protection to the current order, then you can bring up an intermediary page where the user will have the ability to add the insurance protection product to the cart before placing the order. This requires custom modification (a couple of hours - not much).

Option #1 applies at a product level. Option #2 applies at an order level. Option #2 is recommended because you really want to add insurance to the order and not to every product added to cart. Let me know what works for you.
Thanks,
Satya

Satya,

Your thoughts on shipping insurance as an option to the "order" is dead on. I'm trying to add a modification to do just that. I'd appreciate some ideas regarding what pages to modify and how to add this shipping insurance option.
