Hey everyone! Got a question about the credit card number going to zeroes - we think it's happening after an order is marked as shipped and completed. They need to adjust the shipping pricing occasionally (usually a refund) and having to get the credit card number again is difficult. Is there a way that I can (or a programmer) changed that? We like the security of it and aren't asking for it to show all credit cards until the end of time but we would like to change that to happen after the order is complete and after a period of days go by. Having it happen instantly is what's causing the problem.

Anyone have any ideas? This is a customized BVC5 3.2 store. Thank you!

Hello Wanita,

Thats not default behavior. Credit Cards do not become all zeroes when you mark an order as shipped and completed. Since you are saying your store has been customized, may be thats what is causing the problem.
Thanks,

We have an order that was completed, paid and shipped on 12/17/2008. I check the order and the card numbers are **** with the last four still available.

This is a store with the OOTB default settings for order cleanup, is this what you're seeing Wanita?

That is what we are seeing, but all the numbers are 0000 and we can't figure out at what point this happens. We have had a good deal of the store customized and so I'm trying to determine how other stores are displaying so that we know what is normal behavior and what is due to the customizations we have on the store. We did not ask for this in the customizations so it must be default behavior to a certain degree, but I understand that the customizations may be causing it to act differently than ootb stores.

Perhaps I should have phrased my question differently to have avoided the confusion... Do ootb stores show all zero's for the credit cards and if so at what point does this happen. Is it based on the order being marked complete, tracking number added or is it based on a period of time after the order is completed?

Go to options > orders. what's the "Cleanup Orders Older Than" setting?

I believe this is what sets the card numbers to 0000's based on the setting.

actually, i dont know about BV5, but BV2004, its a setting that writes all card #'s to zeros after a X number of days. Its a setting in options. Its to help you, if you db gets hacked somehow, you dont give up all the card numbers. I recommend a setting of about 75 days since you do have to have some time for refunds.

We have added a Remove Credit Card Number to our Process New Order work flow so the Credit Card numbers are all changed to zeros when payment is made. You might check your work flow as well.

Does anyone know for sure, by default if the last four digits stay in the shopping cart forever with BV 5? We are running BV5 SP3.2. I don't see anything in Options. We have just implemented our shopping cart and want to make sure that two months from now we still have the last 4 digits of the credit card in case we need to refund something. Thanks, Joyce

By default in BV 5.4 the card number is completely wiped out to zeros after a set number of days when the order is complete. We'll look into modifying this behavior so that the last 4 digits remain after the wipe.

Marcus,

Something else that might be handy is for this new, revised cleanup process to run on past orders. For example, we have a store that contains all of the credit card numbers from the day it was opened.

The cleanup process should run on any order marked as paid/completed regardless of date or if they were imported.

Oh, that's right. Nevermind. I forgot that we had diagnosed this before. This particular client never marks their orders as paid or shipped.
