Hello!
(Accidentally posted this in pre-sales)
I'm trying to figure out how to create customer choices for a given product.
Say I have T-shirt A
I want the customer to be able to choose small, medium or large from a drop-down menu.
How do I do this?
Or say I have T-Shirt A in Blue and Red.
Blue only comes in Medium and Large
Red comes only in Small
How do I handle the above?
Thanks, Jen

Watch the videos for a start. BVC4's manual is pretty good too, and the vids are very useful: http://www.bvsoftware.com/bvcommerce5manual/http://www.bvsoftware.com/bvc2004/manual/For what you want, you'll need to use choices rather than modifiers and then edit the grid (Product edit page > Edit product variations). Some things are not possible such as making the price for "modifier 'small'" change when you select color 'blue'. Price modifiers don't show up in the grid. Choices will handle your example, but be careful, too many choices and you'll be editing for a long while. get to know the Product Batch Edit too. Sometimes, it's best to make a product and clone it, just get it right the first time. Edit--- forgot, the videos don't run in FF. Use IEx or maybe chrome. |

Thanks Mitch,
I think I've memorized the manual at this point. ;>.
Haven't watched the videos since my browsers of choice are Firefox -> Safari -> Anything Else -> IE. I guess I'll have to install somewhere to watch. sigh.
Can anyone tell me how the Product Type and Type Properties tie into the Product Variations? I don't fully understand the connections between the two. Particularly since the product-type and type properties seem to get me closer to what I want, but I can't figure out how to give the customer the option of picking from the multiple-choice list.
Thanks, Jen

Jen, you RALLY need to watch the videos.
Product Type and Type Properties have nothing to do with customer choices. Put simply, they are available to make it easy for the admin to build a product on the screen by allowing a mix and match of blocks of text. The drop-down is for the admin to choose from to simplify getting something like this on the screen:
Delivery time: 1 week
'Delivery time:' is a Type Property, '1 week', '2 weeks'..., are drop down choices for the admin to choose from on a product's EDIT page. The shopper doesn't see anything to choose from.
Ideally, you'll get Product Types and Type Properties set up before building your products. Once you lay the groundwork, building products can go very quickly.
Assign products to a wide range of Product Types even if you don't use the feature. It'll allow you to 'group edit' by Product Type later on.
Marcus, if you're not going to make the videos work on-line properly, perhaps you could load them on Youtube instead and post links in the manual???? |
