First -- let me say -- what an awesome tool! The control over what you can import is great! But I have a question about User import, plus had an error on Product Import:
1. The products would not import -- I received an error screen:
Invalid column name 'ProductType' Invalid column name 'RecurringSubscription' Invalid column name 'PaymentPeriod' Invalid column name 'Term' Invalid column name 'BillingDelay'
I assume these are BV5 columns -- so why would they report "invalid"?
2. Is it possible to get Pricing Group info when importing Users? Do I have to set up Pricing Groups in BV5 FIRST before running the tool?
Thanks! |

Joe,
1) Are you running version 6.8? The tool assumes your database has those extra columns which are included in SF 6.8
2) I'll see if we can get price groups converted too. Right now the tool doesn't do price group imports.

If this only works with SF6.8 it'll be useless for all of us who've avoided 6.8 like the plaque. The reason for looking for somthing better (BVC5) was, for most of us at SF, the 6.8 troubles reported at SF's forum. Many are still on 6.7 or earlier, some much earlier having given up for lack of company support.
Perhaps you could detail what will or won't import from 6.6, 6.7, 6.8. It'll save some of us a lot of desk banging, and posting for help here. |

Thanks Marcus,
Actually only running SF6.5 -- too many bugs in 6.8 to update -- is there a way around that? |

Okay, let me see what columns are really required for the import process and see if I can make the tool more compatible with older releases.
As an alternative you could make a copy of your existing database and run the 6.8 database upgrade scripts on the copy. Then run the import tool on the new upgraded 6.8 copy of your SF database.

Can you confirm your version number when you load up the app?

Marcus,
If you mean the migration tool, it shows 5.0.0.4 |

Joe,
Can you email me a screenshot or send me your SF database connection string so I can try and duplicate the error. As far as I can tell version 5.0.0.4 does not access the "ProductType" column at all.

Joe,
Version 5.0.0.6 was just published and includes a fix for 6.5 support. I tested in your database and everything looks good.

Outstanding! Worked like a charm!
If you have the opportunity to add the Pricing Groups to the Users, that would be awesome! |

Possible serious issue: I just tried the sf6.8 to bv5 tool to move my second site over to its new home and all my custom url's dissapeared. Options were to migrate categories and replace the existing ones. Could somebody look into this as this is possible a serious issue.

Mark,
I can tell you from experience that because of the SF6 naming convention on categories and products, importing categories caused some problems for me, conflicts between categories and products (I think with teh same ID number) -- it ended up assigning products to my category URL rewrites. If you can it's best to create all new categories in BV and then assign your products to them. |

Joe, Thanks for the feedback. My issue was slightly different than what you described in that the custom url's (for custom pages) just flat out dissapeared.
Perhaps the migration tool should come with a disclaimer/warning about possible conflicts (more than the usual backup your data first that is.)

Is there any instructions for how to use this or some basic information?
I'm about ready to start putting products in the site. The layout is just about finished.
Thanks |

Dan,
no instructions that I know about -- but if you have any products with Volume Pricing discounts, make sure you edit each of those, they will be WAY OFF.
In SF6 if you have an item that is $3.00 and you have 25 cents off for 10 or more (making it 2.75), BV will make it SELL for 25 cents for 10 or more.
I also found that you need to create new categories in BV and assign your products to them. |
