We added a status message to our code so products could be shown on the site, but not sold (per vendor requirements). After downloading the import tool source code from Here we learned that the import tool checks the inventory modes based on the originals included with a vanilla BVC 5.3.2 We simply had to add the new mode to the Import tool Web References\BVWeb (references.vb) by going to the object browser (double click BVWeb) and opening ProductInventoryMode & ProductInventoryMode1. Save all files and double click BVC5ImportTool-1031\bin and the import tool worked great.
