I'm pleased to announce that the BV Connector for QuickBooks is now FREE and open source. The software can be "purchased' for free from the BV Software store at http://www.bvsoftware.com/store. The software download includes the standard installable version and the optional source code.

The Connector will work with BV Commerce 2004 and BV Commerce 5. It will work with QuickBooks versions 2003 to 2007 and may work with versions 2008 and 2009.

The source code is now available under the Microsoft Reciprocal License. The license allows you to do just about anything you want but you must return the favor by including your modified source code whenever you distribute the application. My hope is that some of the smart developers here will be able to return enhancements to us that we had never even considered before.

If you do wish to work on the source code you will need the QuickBooks SDK Version 6 which can be found for free at http://developer.intuit.com You will need to create an account and then can download directly from this link:

Please let me know what you think.

one thing I'd greatly appreciate is the ability to run the QB connector and have it produce the import IIF file so I can look at it - if nothing else, this would let us debug what the problems are instead of just running it straight into QB.

IIF files are being deprecatated by Intuit...you're walking into a deadend.

well, they've deprecated on me before , but IIF is used by a ton of other companies for standard QB interface formats, so we will have a whole lotta shakin' going on. They promised me Enterprise access to the Sybase database using ODBC, too. That's a real quagmire. IIF at least is the one method that works across all versions (currently).

I'm looking into the QuickBooks Web Connector as a possible improvement to the export process. This would create a web service on your site that meets an Intuit specification. A small XML file is also put on the web site. From within QuickBooks you "connect" to the URL of your web site and the XML file downloads to tell QuickBooks the location of your web services. From then on you just "synchronize" from within QuickBooks and it calls the web site directly to get data.

I'm still evaluating all of the features of this connector to see if it can handle all of the tasks that the export tool does now. I think it's promising.

O2G, if you want ODBC, there's a driver called QODBC...I think a read only version is included but you can buy from the developer a read / write version.

I'm not recommending this in any way (in fact we would avoid it for any serious work against QB) but there is something available.

I use BVC OrderExport/Connector with QB2008 and it works great. Is there any way to automate the process of exporting the orders so that it (QB) is always up to date?

Thanks,

Derek

Where is the source code for the QB connector? We have full source for version 5.5, but in the downloaded files I have the source for everything but the QB connector. When i go to this URL: http://www.bvsoftware.com/store, I don't see a download for the QB connector. The compiled application is available and functional from the download.

We missed the QB source code when moving to our new store platform. I'll try and get it back up shortly.

I'm not seeing where I can download the QB connector on the website. Can someone provide a link or tell me where to go to find it?

Thanks

Chuck -

I found the files by logging into my account at accounts.bvcommerce.com.
