Afternoon everyone - we are battling with the product import tool into BV 5.4. So far we have begun testing it but each time we test the import of a small number of products it's only affecting the home page of our website rather than importing products into a product category. Anyone got any ideas please and surely there must be an easier guide or tool to help us get large quantities of products into BV without having to do them one by one...? I hope
Good stuff and thanks in advance..

We've run into a variety of problems with the import tool over the years so we generally do not recommend using it. I know some merchants have had great success with it but that has not been our experience. We've built import/export tools for our clients that have needed this. The advantage of doing this is that you can build merchant-specific logic into it (e.g. always default new products to a certain template). |

Hi there Aaron, thanks for your thoughts.
The problem we have is that a previous web designer we employed had it working brilliantly but we've never been able to work out how he did it or get the same results since he moved on...
If you build these what sort of costs are we talking about please? I run a lighting company so we have very large sets of products ~3000 at a time so a templated approach would be sensible.
I'll be honest this is a significant enough problem for us that we are considering a new system that is not BV...! Uploading products one by one is not a good enough solution for a web based shopping cart system - the upload function needs to work or we need a new system...
Hope you can help All the best Giles Efficient Light

Can you tell me which pieces of data (fields) you need to import? That would be helpful in determining if our tool in its existing form will meet your needs or if we will need to augment it. |

Nothing is ever simple, this is a light fitting with I reckon up to 20 data fields required. http://www.efficientligh...t-fittings-JC9028LE.aspxLight fittings is our main interest but we also sell lamps and components each of which will have a different set of fields, less probably ~10 not 20 Hope that helps? Cheers Giles

Thanks, Giles. It looks like you are utilizing BV's Type Properties for the 'spec' information of your products. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe BV's import/export tool works with those fields. Our import/export tool works with the primary product fields (e.g. SKU, name, short/long description, prices, etc). We could certainly extend it to support Type Properties, however. Drop me an email at "aaron DOT sherrick AT develisys DOT com" and we can work out the details.
Sorry to get all technical on you! |
