Happy Thanksgiving! Here is beta 1 of a basic Froogle/GoogleBase feed for BV Commerce 5.

INSTALL

1) Copy the two included files into the /bvadmin/catalog folder of your store

USE

1) Go to Froogle.Google.com and sign up for a Google Base Account
2) Register to bulk upload a "products" file that is "tab delimited text"
3) Pick a name for your file like "Froogle.txt" and use that when registering your bulk upload
4) Register to upload via FTP. You'll be asked by Google to select a username and password
5) Go to http://www.mystore.com/b...min/catalog/Froogle.aspx (replace www.mystore.com with your store's url)
6) Enter your username, password, and feed file name in the text fields.
7) Click the "Generate Feed Only" if you want to preview without sending to Google. You can also use the preview to manually copy and paste the feed into your own file to upload through the web site.
8) Click the "Generate Feed and Send" button to generate a feed and automatically send it to Google

NOTES

The most common GoogleBase fields are set automatically from matching BV Commerce fields. There are many other fields that aren't set by default. To enable these other fields you can:

1) Create or Edit a product Type in BV Commerce
2) Add text properties that exactly match one of the available field names below (i.e. "ISBN")
3) Assign your products to this product type and enter the appropriate information
4) When the feed is generated, it checks all the available product properties to see if their "property name" matches a Google Base field. If so, that value is used. Otherwise an empty string is sent.

Available Fields:

payment_accepted
payment_notes
shipping
expiration_date
actor
apparel_type
artist
author
brand
color
condition
model_number
format
isbn
memory
pickup
processor_speed
size
tax_percent
tax_region
upc
product_type

Beta 2 Files

Beta 1 incorrectly sets blank shipping to "shipping" instead of an empty string.

I wanted to post this feedback. The Froogle Feed works great except that the last item always errors out due to "too few tabs". I deleted the last item twice and the error is repeated for the new last item. Thanks.

Are you uploading it using this tool or copying and pasting?

Marcus, I don't know if you are aware on not but Froogle has just announced that they are requiring new attributes to be added to the product feed.
<quote>
we're asking all Froogle merchants to send us bulk uploads in the Google Base format, with five additional attributes (along with the basic ones you've submitted in the past). Because we think it's important to provide a consistent user experience, we will no longer list items that don't meet a minimal number of attributes by the end of February 2007.
</quote>

They have also sent along a link http://base.google.com/s...bin/topic.py?topic=10610 for more information.

Don't know if the updates can be made in time for the sp2 final release or not but would be nice.

Thanks,

Richard

Marcus,

Maybe you should remove this download or thread so people unaware of the changes do not think that this will work.

The froogle feed should currently work with Google Base there is a transition time frame and we're going to update the feed before the required fields are needed.

We have reviewed all of the new GoogleBase specifications and our free BV Commerce 5 plugin has all of the required attributes for valid GoogleBase feeds. There are additional, optional attributes available but they are based on the product type from Google so you will need to manually modify the code if you wish to send these optional fields.

does anyone have a the first field setup as "c:bvin:string" which is incompatible with froogle and messes up the alignment of the feed.

If you do how do you get rid of this, it doesn't seem to need to be there.

Have the instructions on using the Froogle Feed at the top of this posting been updated to work with GoogleBase's latest requirements? I'm wondering because of all the subsequent changes to GoogleBase discussed later in this thread.

Reason I ask, is that I followed the instructions at the top, and got multiple errors when I posted my feed to Froogle. I'm using BVC 5 SP2. (I was hoping that the Froogle Feed included in SP2 would work by default with Google's newest requirements).

Here are some of the errors:

Code:

Error: This attribute is no longer supported. Please use a supported attribute
Bad data: memory:

Error: We were unable to match the attributes in this dsv (delimiter separated values) data feed line to the corresponding attributes in the header (first) row.

Error: We couldn't understand the web address (URL) you submitted. Please check the format of your URL. -
link:http://www.<DOMAIN>\Products/<PAGE-NAME>.aspx

On the last error, I noticed that the there's a backslash instead of a forward slash after <DOMAIN>. Is there a setting in somewhere in the admin I should change to force it to use a forward slash?

(Also on that last error, I substituted the real domain and page names with <DOMAIN> and <PAGE-NAME>, respectively).

If those instructions at the top are up-to-date, can somebody provide them? Many thanks!

We've never been able to get the direct FTP feed tool to work. What we do is download to tab delimited, create the feed and upload. You need to remove all extra columns to the right of the last column WITH data. If it ends at product type delete all columns right of there. We do the same below the last row of data. When we didn't do it we had errors trying to upload our promo items without trouble. Otherwise we got all sorts of failures. Please let us know if this works for you too.

Thanks HPros! I'll give your suggestions a try.

Regarding the spurious backslash. I just fixed that by going to the admin / Options / Security, and making sure that both the "Site Standard Root" and "Site Secure Root" URLs ended with a slash. (I think we'd previously removed that last slash because it broke an email template somewhere).

I am looking for some help getting Froogle to run. The FTP always locks up. Can anyone give me a little detail on how to make the CSV File?

Do I need to pull that directly out of the access database?

Didn't quite follow your comment about extracting the CSV from Access.

Just go to the admin, then Plug-ins / BV Froogle Feed, and then Generate Feed Only.

The text that appears in the text below is the "guts" of the CSV. Select all, copy to the clipboard, and then paste into a local text file.

Then fire up Excel (or Access if you know what you're doing), and open the txt file. Excel should recognize that it's a tab-delimited text file (which, actually isn't a CSV file.
