Is it possible to have multiple images stacked on top of each other?
I'm trying to design another website, but I need to be able to overlay images on top of each other.
I'm trying to have to avoid creating a ton of images.
Basically, the website sells items that are similar.
Example:
Option A has 10 options, Option B has 20 options.
Right now, they only need 30 images.
Option A is a transparent image that overlays on Option B.
So is there a way to do that, because otherwise I have to create thousands of new images.
Any thoughts? |

With CSS and transparent images you could stack them on top of each other. It would get tricky because you'll need to set the z-order just right.
It would also require a custom product page for BV commerce to link up product choices with the stack of images.

All of the 'Option A' ones would be in the exact same place. (And the 'Option B' images would all be in the same place.)
How would I go about creating (or getting someone to help me create) a custom product page? |

They'll go in the same place, but you'll still have to stack them correctly in the z-index. IE6 has issues with this, so it could get very frustrating. I assume you're talking about doing something in the way that cell animation works, where there's a background and the other elements are on transparent cells than are overlapped.
You'll also have to deal with the edges of the items in your transparent images. Transparent PNG is the way to go, but IE6 doesn't support it, and you'll have a heck of a time creating the transparencies if they are coming from product photographs.
Plus, getting the correct images set up in the correct order in the product itself could be painstaking. Of course, this all depends on what will be going into your image, so it's difficult to speculate, but it could be more work in the long run. |

The images that are transparent are gif files right now.
The site is already set up for that, I would just have to redo it.
I understand that setting the z-index might be difficult, although, in theory at least, there should only be 2 levels.
Right now, I'm just trying to get the page to work so that:
If I choose Option A1, it displays image A1.
If I then choose Option B2 it overlays B2 on top of A1.
Then if I change it to A3, it would change it to B2 on top of A3.
Any thoughts? |
