Not a bug... just a 'shopper's visit' thought.....

Are there any sites out there with an effective use of Upselling or Cross Selling? I'm just wondering if offering an upsell at the cart is the best place to try to get a shopper to buy up. Cross selling might be appropriate at the cart, but I'm thinking of adding "Other products you might like" to the product page, leaving the cart alone. Perhaps once a purchase has been decided upon and the cart is on the screen, I'd just as soon not disturb an on-going sale.

Any thoughts?

This is just a personal preference but if I am shopping on a site and get re-directed to another product while checking out I leave. I use the up-sell tool very rarely on my site and only if it is an accessory that they really need with the main purchase. The cross sell tool is what we mainly use. I try to have 2 - 3 alternate products on each product page.

Anyone have any other opinions?

I use it only for accessories... a lot of my products have accessories which i want to add to the cart for the original product only.
