Where can I find how to control the Catalog Title section? That is the bar at the top of the page that dynamically contains the Catalog (Category) title? I have looked in the styles.css file but am not sure what style section it is. I need to be able to change the font and background color.
What needs to be one with the BV5 Manual is to have a section that displays each page and describes the elements and what file(s) control them. Most of the elements I'm able to find and customize okay, but some I'm having trouble tracking down some of them.
Thanks -- Joe |

Is #categorymain what you are looking for? You might install this utility in FireFox. http://chrispederick.com/work/webdeveloper/ |

Perhaps -- but in finding that section in the stylesheet it only gives me size information, nothing about fonts, background color, etc. |

Try adding the font and color styles to the existing definition. CSS is hierarchical. If the style is not specifically defined, then the element inherits the style from its container, and so on. The "View Style Information" tool in WebDeveloper (the plugin that Kim mentioned) does a really good job of showing exactly which styles in the hierarchy apply to an element. |

Thanks Andy -- I actually found it by determing the existing color hex code and searching it out in the stylesheet. The section I was actually looking for was .h1 -- the .categorymain is actually the grid area of the category pages.
I'm finding that BV5 uses a lot more of CSS than I'm use to -- certainly a lot more flexibility than having nearly everything as "Content" :-) |

A LOT more!
I get the sense that you are resisting FireFox + WebDeveloper plugin. Don't. It really is painless and the combination is fantastically easy to use. I do virtually all of my design work in FireFox. The three features I use most: View Style Information, Edit CSS (seriously! edit the CSS and see the affect live!), and Outline XXX. Actually I will temporarily add a border in CSS more often then I will use Outline XXX, but they are both useful.
"searching it out" is so 2005 :) |

Andy,
Actually I installed it and am working with it! I'm still trying to figure out what sections are what in the BV5 stylesheet. |

Remember that changes to the H1 section will affect all elements that use the H1 style. If you only want to change the one element that uses it, only change that element. I'm still learning more about CSS, but it makes life (well, web design life) so much easier. |

Joe, be sure to fire up some of the other browsers once in a while and have a look through other's eyes. Firefox can make everything look good, but not all shoppers use Firefox. |

On the add-on subject, something that might be even more helpful for you than the web development toolbar is Firebug ( http://www.getfirebug.com). Just using the inspect feature you'll have everything you need at your fingertips. I had a meeting with one of the Firefox developers the other night and he said they actually use this one a lot in-house. When testing in other browsers (I don't recommend developing in IE, but I do suggest constantly testing there and others), I'd recommend looking into Firebug Lite ( http://www.getfirebug.com/lite.html). |

I use Firebug to write/debug Anthem all the time (much better than Venkman), but I've never used the inspect tool...very cool! I especially like how it crosses out the css styles that are overridden by a more specific selector. |

Absolutely. And the ability to quickly edit in that direct cascade is such a time-saver. |
