How do I get a category grid on the homepage?

Hi folks, hoping some BVC5 veterans can point me in the right direction on this on...
I would like to add a category grid as a content block on the homepage. Is there a straight forward way to do this (like in BVC2004 a category grid was ready to go as a content block)? - I'm sure I'm just missing something.
Thanks in advance,
Matt |

I made my own. Not pretty code-wise... just tables manually filled, but it'll get me launched. A better solution will require a steeper learning curve. I'll open the store for a while, have a look. http://69.84.145.116/Default.aspx |

Hi Matt,
The category rotator should be able to be fairly easily adapted to your needs. What type of customization level are you looking for in your grid.
ie. Do you need to be able to select what categories to display? Should it only display the top-level categories with no customization options? Should you be able to choose the categories but the only options are top level categories? Should whether or not the category descriptions are included be a customizable property? Are options necessary to set the grid size (3x3, 2x2, 2x6)? Should the grid size and other options be controlled on a block level (meaning possibly different for each pag you add it to) or globally throughout the site? |

Hi Mitch, Thanks for the replied. The way you've done yours is the way I'll do mine if I need to, to launch the site but since I'd rather have a 'clean break' once the design is done and let the client have full control then a solution within the CMS is goal. bvuser, I thought the category rotator might be a place to start too. For the client in question, the categories need to be hand picked, I would like to have some featured categories that the client can vary whenever fit. My design assumes 4x1 but I guess the ultimate solution would be able to configure other grid dimensions. Category discriptions should be included and for the ultimiate solution, 3 bullets of sub categories taken from the catogory and then a "View all" would be the icing on the cake (you'll see what I mean in the attached screenshot). Looking forward to your ideas, thanks again, Matt Surfscience attached the following image(s): eaWipGrab.jpg (138kb) downloaded 99 time(s).You cannot view/download attachments.
