I am a bit new to BVC, and have looked around some, but I dont see a control to show a grid view of products with a simple Add to Cart button vs havign to go into the detail page of an item to add it to the cart. surely this exists, but i am not seeing it. can someone point me to one? thanks [email protected]

I don't believe it exists out of the box. I generally have to look at the other modules and piece a new one together with correct markup when I need something like that. |

Hi there, I've been attempting to get that myself. Both a Details, and an add to Cart button in a product grid. I started this thread, but haven't nailed it. http://forums.bvcommerce...lt.aspx?f=79&m=50191I figured out Price, Short Description, and found a thread from awhile ago that let me get the MSRP in there. But haven't nailed the buttons I need. I've been hoping to get an assist from the guru's of the forum. If you get it working, please share, it would be a huge help -Dave

Yeah, the button is the piece i am looking for as well... I cant believe this has not been done.
This is a VERY common thing in online stores, and can't believe BVC doesnt have something like that available. having to take people to detail pages to buy something on simple items is overkill, and will hurt the user experience.
i will keep working. If i come up with a way to do it, i will let you know.
thx

This was the one thing that held me back from BV for many months -- not making the customer "drill down" to add to cart -- one of the problems is that if you have Product Choices, then it becomes even more difficult and I have been to stores where you can add to cart ONLY those items that don't have choices, but get a "More Details" button for those that do (and in fact BV5 is that way with the Detailed list template), and I think that looks very unprofessional.
I found, however, there were/are bugs with product pricing and Pricing Groups when adding to cart from the Detailed List template, versus the Detail Product Page, so I opted for the Grid w/subs template and all customers must drill down.
I have found from user feedback and surveys, however, that very, very few customers complain about having to drill down and they much prefer my current store to the previous one where they could add from the category page.
That said, the experience could be improved with two things:
1. The Keep Shopping button returns them to the exact place where they were (the Product Page) -- currently it returns them to the category page instead -- and page 1 -- even if they were on a product from page 4.
2. The ability to move from product to product within a category (with Next/Previous buttons) rather htan having to go back to the category page. |

Hi Joe,
At this point, I'd be happy if I can just get a detail button on the Product Grid. I don't think it's intuitive enough for all customers to click on the product image. Some people just need that shiney button to click on.
I can deal with the drill down, if it can be made more intuitive with a button. If anyone can lend an assist with at least the detail button, I'll be a happy camper.

perhaps if you looked at the code in the Detailed List template where it inserts the button for "Details" |

Hi Joe,
I gave that a shot. i was able to pull in the in Price, and a short description pretty easily by using the that template. I tried to get the button in, but I was getting errors. I probably didn't carry over all the right code, but after quite a few attempts I started trying other methods (with no luck).
The details list has code to to do both details and add to cart, that seems to be tied in together. I began getting errors, felt I got close a few times, but just haven't nailed it.
I'll just keep swinging and hope to hit the ball sooner than later.

Hey Cornellu,
That looks like the category detail template.
I'm trying to add the Detail/Add to Cart button to the product grid content block (but was trying to use the code within that detail template to rig it up).
So for example on your home page yo have Best Price, Kids Games, Trivia etc. I'm guess those are product grid content blocks. I'm trying to get the button in those. I figured out how to get price and short description.
But after literally weeks of trying, without success, I think I have to retire the idea (which is not a good thing).
thanks -Dave
