Here is a delimia I am running in to, and most likely it is only for my site so its not something to ask BV about or put as a future request.
I have a lot of shared choices that have the same shared choices name, but the prices need to be different. For example: I have 30 exam tables. All 30 exam tables have the same standard color upholestry and deluxe color upholestry. All 30 exam tables price for the stadard upholestry is the same, but each exam table has a different price for the deulxe upholestry. What are my options? I can either create 1 shared choice, and put an average price for the deulxe upholestry to be used on each table OR I can create a product modifier for exach table. Pros and Cons? The first option is ok, but i could overcharge or undercharge because it is a average price. If the manufacturer decides to change on color, a few colors, or all the colors, I can simply change it in the shared choice and it takes place across all 30 tables. The second option is ok, but it is very time consuming. I can charge the customer the correct price for each table. BUT, If the manufacturer decides to change a color, a few colors, or all the colors, I have to go in each product modifier and change it.
Is it possible to get a plugin that will allow for two different types of shared choices? The first shared choice stays the exact same is it does in BVC5 now. It shares the name and price. The second shared choice only shares the name, not the price. That way I can go in and create all the colors one time, but go to each product and edit the prices for each choice according to that product. When i need to make a change to the name, it carries across the site.
Suggestions or ideas?

I make an empty shell of a product, build the modifiers for that product and save the product off to the side in a holding pen (odd-junk) category. When I need the modifier list, I clone the product and edit the list, then build the product and svae as a finished product. This gets you a choices or modifiers template without the 'sharing' part.
It's a lot faster than building an involved list of modifiers from scratch.
I'd like to be able to grab a modifier from one product and paste it into another, again, without sharing when you edit.

I could save time by not having to create the modifiers by what you said, but the updating is where the major time issue lies. If the color changes on one, i have to update 30, 50 or 100 others. Scary.

Brian, in that case Product Batch Editing might do it. Make one shared modifier and batch it to 30, 50.... |

It was just a thought... again i may be the only site with this issue. But i mean... hey... if you got something pass it on ;) I got about 200 products i need to put up that are going to share colors. My example is pretty real life for me. Do you want standard upholstery, or deluxe? The sad thing is that for each of those 200 tables, the deluxe upholstery price is different.
I could have a shared choice for the standard upholstery, and then have an option for deluxe, and instructions to select from the velow choice. I think that is too many steps.
Again, im trying to save time in the future. Usually this manfacturer changes upholstery every year. Scary! ahhhh!

I'd be great if we could make a modifier list and clone it, then bump the $ of each choice X% and save as a new list.
Can be done, might be too limited to attract someone to do it.
I have a sim situation with some of my products. I just re-designed the manner in which the shopper builds his product from the choices available. The time saved in building the store is incredible if you accept the fact that not all products can be easily sold/shopped on a computer screen.
I'd be great if we could adjust prices on the color choice when a size choice is made:
#1
Size drop-down,
Small is selected.
Color drop down,
Blue costs $1.00 extra.
#2
Size drop-down,
Large is selected.
Color drop down,
Blue costs $2.00 extra.
Choosing 'Large' causes the add'l charge for 'blue' to change. |
