Use Lightbox (or similar) Image Zoom instead of regular image zoom

I'm wondering if anyone has spruced-up the additional image functionality to use a lightbox (or similar) type of functionality. I think it would greatly improve the aesthetics of a site...
Thanks,
: Greg

Unless you're a MAC user, at which point you'll get constant error messages in your log.
It doesn't work for Mac users.

Greg,
I know several customers who have modified product pages to use lightbox or something similar. It's a pretty small change but does require custom coding.

We also offer a Lightbox option for your product pages. We do not offer the cool zoom features that SmartView does, but our control works great with BV5. Feel free to send us an email [email protected] |

I can highly recommend Brendon and Resposio for their lightbox control and hosting. Richard www.somethingmorestore.com

It seems like the lightbox-style image zoomers are being replaced by on-page zoom tools. Generally I find these to be easier to use and much faster. Magic Toolbox has several zoom tools, my favorite of which is Magic Zoom. A free component similar to this is jQZoom. Below is a BV 2004 site we built that uses Magic Zoom: http://www.hairdirect.com/store...-Tip-Blow-Dry-Brush.aspx |

Hi Aaron -
That looks great! Is this something you are selling as an add-on or sharing with the community? Is it based on a control? I'd be very interested in working with this for my clients.
Thanks,
: Greg

Greg,
Thanks for the kudos! We have not yet implemented this on a BV 5 store, so we don't have any code that we can release. Integrating the JavaScript image zoomers that I mentioned in my previous post isn't very different. The problem arises from the need for multiple image sizes (thumbnail, medium image, zoomed image). We built a dynamic image resizer that crunches the images auto-magically. We further customized the store by essentially doing away with small and medium images. The customer just uploads high-res images. They can sort the images and then select any image as the "default" image. The default image is used as the small and medium image. If you decide that you want to change the image sizes on your site, just change the settings in the admin and the store automatically resizes every image on the store. It's pretty sweet.
If we were to make an add-on for BV 5, we would probably want to include a set of replacement controls for things like the SingleProductDisplay so that they would take advantage of the image resizer. |

How about some the Highslide integration like www.BestChess.com.au (click on the + in the Top Products or on a product image in the product pages). It looks very sleek. Corneliu. |

OOoh... Snazzy Corneliu... It doesn't close well in IE8, but I like it. |

My old site, CPAPSupplyUSA.com uses mootools and a lightbox effect for additional images. Very nicely implemented by my staff. |

Michael,
The link was in my post above. Granted, this is now a few years later and my preference of the Magic Zoom type image viewers has faded. |
