I'm very new at this. We are using BV 2004. Since last night, the site hasn't been working. When you type in the url for the store directly it works, but when the main url is typed in (without store/default.aspx) we get the error (below). Anyone have insight. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm really new at this...lots of html experience but not experiences with asp .net at all.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="Off"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
<system.web>
<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>

Is the root of the site http://www.xxx.com/store/default.aspx instead of say, http://www.xxx.com/default.aspx?

Don't let the error message fool you. It's not a problem with the custom errors. That error is just saying that it can't display the real error because you are accessing the site remotely.

You need to do what the error message says to get to the real error message. That is, open up your web.config file and turn the customErrors mode Off.
