SP1 patch, nothing but errors on the DB side?

Am I the only one getting innumerable errors regarding "unable to drop constraint" etc with the SQL Patches?
It's been three weeks, you guys getting any closer to releasing a FULLY patched product? Seems pointless to have to install the software, then run a half dozen patches and fixes when the BV team could create a fully patched installer.

Scott,
We are releasing hot fixes for critical issues as they are fixed. You are not required to install any of them if you don't want to.
Would you rather have the option to install hot fixes as they become available or wait for several weeks without any updates until we can batch them into a service pack? By releasing them as soon as possible you get both.

Marcus, JMHO but at this point there are enough hotfixes and patches that an SP should have been released that rolled them all up. It would just make more sense after all the fixes to have a complete "fixed" version. Right now your new customers (or any existing customer setting up their store live) has to perform a series of updates just to get the known fixes. That doesn't even touch the existing problems that there are currently no fixes for as listed here.
I realize you have a true SP in the works, but it's not like there haven't been enough fixes already to qualify as an SP ?
I tried performing the update on a fresh local copy and the same errors were generated however the store seems to operate fine. I'm thinking that it's balking because i'm trying to perform the updates on a fresh store with no products or categories. Will try adding a few and see if it still tosses errors.

Scott, not sure what your issue is with the errors but we have installed the patches and hotfixes to built stores, new store builds etc. We have yet to run into any DB issues. I would look into the DB permissions.
Personally I like having the hotfixes available as they are needed. Is keeping them under wraps until a fully tested SP is released better for you? If so wait. |

Noah, actually what would be better for me is a software package without 5 hotfixes and an SP within weeks of release :)
This is what many knocked the other software for and probably marks a first in QC issues for BV. That doesn't even touch the problems not addressed as Andy mentioned elsewhere.
What would make sense is releasing an installer/setup that includes at least the main SP that is released. That's not too much to ask is it? If someone buys the software today they have at least one major update to do and possibly up to 5 more hotfixes. What would it take, 1 hour for BV to release BVC5.1 incorporating those patches?

Maybe an hour to merge it in. To beat it into the installer, test on various setups etc, I would guess 10-15 hours minimum, but that is beside the point. You want a full installer, just wait till they get the current batch of issues bundled in and you will get a full installer. We like to know about fixes as they are released so issues that effect current projects or customers use of the product can be addressed right away. |

I won't pretend to know what's involved in putting together a service pack installer (I have an idea), but I think it's probably too time consuming and redundant to create a new version of the service pack for each hotfix as they are released. The product is new and is now more than ever being put to the test in the real world, so things that the automated tests and beta testers missed are bound to pop up now. |

Cliff, I understand it can't be done for each hotfix, but there is already a full SP out... even Microsoft releases SP versions of the software/sells those versions once they are released and they were notorious for being sluggish.
Either I nor my host can get the SP to update the DB properly. I've now posted the error messages we both got on the bug report section. It may take BV 10 hours to do the installer, but I've easily wasted that much time trying to get this software working and I highly doubt I'm alone. I wouldn't need to run the SQL updates if they were done on install...that's all I'm saying.
Noah, I think our expectations are often different as we are on different ends of the equation. After dropping almost 2k now on this software I still can't use it live. I'd prefer not to wait another 30, 50, 90 days for a full installer that works. Again, worst cast one person one day gets the selling version to BVC 5.1...when's the next big patch coming out...a month etc?
I've followed the instructions explicitly. The store works. The update fails on the DB AFTER I run the sitepatch installer. Hopefully it's a bug related to lack of products, but I'd prefer to know it's working before I start sending customers past, current and future to the site.
For ease of deployment for all new and existing customers, the SP's should be rolled up. I totally understand the hotfixes cannot be.

BV released a patch, but SP1 hasn't been released yet. A service pack would be 5.1, not 5.01, unless I missed something. |

Wouldn't it be prudent to load your data into your Db and then test it? You may be spinning your wheels until you have valid data in your DB. Never hurts to try :) I am new to BV and I got it to work and found the process fairly easy. If I can do it anyone can. Personally I am impressed with this version of BV and think Marcus and his team has done a great job on a great product. My 2 cents.
