Can you remove Paypal Button from Shopping Cart but not from Checkout process?

We are having some issues where some information is not captured (like phone number and referral selection) if someone clicks the PayPal button IN the shopping cart before actually hitting the standard BV Checkout box.
Is there a way to completely remove this button from the cart and ONLY allow users to select Paypal at the next screen?
This would be super helpful! Thanks.
(The only workaround I thought of was to make the paypal button 1px by 1px and the same color as the BG.
Any ideas would be great! |

Both of your suggestions are prohibited by the PayPal license agreement. If you want to use the PayPal payment option during checkout, you have to also support the PayPal button on the checkout page. There are specific size and placement requirements for the button.
Some merchants have had success adding text near the buttons to clarify their role.
Other merchants decide that the total cost of using PayPal (including the cost of resolving problem orders such as you have) is not worth it and remove PayPal support. |

Does anyone have ANY other way to fix this? I really need to by-pass this first PayPal button so i can collect the appropriate data. I don't mind having the button there, but I need it to at least direct them to the following page where their phone number and referral source is required. |

BVC5 uses Website Payments Pro. Here is the guide, https://www.paypalobjects.com/WEBSCR-525-20080701-1/en_US/pdf/PP_WebsitePaymentsPro_IntegrationGuide.pdf You are asking for something that they explicitly prohibit. Note rule #1 on page 14, "[3]Present the PayPal Express Checkout button and associated messaging before requesting shipping address, billing address, and financial information. PayPal account holders should not be required enter any of this information on your website, because the information is available from their PayPal accounts."[/3] If their rules do not match your business requirements, then don't use PayPal. |

So how do you get Gift Wrapping, Special Instructions, Ship to a different address or other information from the customer then? For us in 80% of the scenarios we get an email as a reply to the order acknoledgement from users telling us: Woops, I don't what to receive my stuff at the address from PayPal, please send it somewhere else. And for about 5% we get, WTF, why did you send it to that address. I hate that rule from PayPal :( Regards, Corneliu. |

Yes, -- I purchase from a vendor -- and they ONLY use PayPal so during the checkout I have to backup and change my address that PayPal fills in back to the customer information for the vendor to ship to. It does cause a lot of trouble.
