I would use a separate email management system like Constant Contact, iContact, etc. BV's mailing list functionality is very basic and really not suited for any volume. An email service like the ones mentioned will give you reporting (i.e. how many people opened your email, clicked through, what links they clicked, etc) and also insulate your domain from being blacklisted for SPAM since you're not sending the emails directly.
