How can I create a specific area on my product page for a YouTube Video?

I want to create a specific area on my product page that will be a place I can embed a YouTube video but I don't want to mess up the long description or short description as I imagine this will look bad in my data feeds.
Can I create a custom field for this? If so, will it be possible for the custom feed to show up and be usable in the Flat File Export tool?
Is there any other way to do this that might work better for me? |

Yes, you can definitely add a custom field. If you look at this site, http://www.hairdirect.com/store...hesive-Remover-16oz.aspx, you'll see a video tab. This was done using a custom field. If you don't want to add a new field to the database, you could always make use of a type property. Another thought regarding embedding video in the long description and how that might affect data feeds, you can always strip HTML and JavaScript out of your content when you generate a feed. |

Aaron-
Thanks!
I am fine adding custom fields but from what I can tell they are NOT exported when you use the flat file export tool... is that correct?
If so, then that would mean there is no way of easily updating them with a spreadsheet, right?
Is there a workaround for this?

Is there a workaround for this? I don't really use that tool, but if you add a new field to the product table, I'm sure that the tool has no idea that the new field exists and will not use. Does the tool make use of type properties (I'm guessing not). The only "workaround" would be to write your own export tool. Did Marcus release the source code for this tool? I know that he did for one of those tools, but I don't recall which one. Guess I'm not much help on this topic... :) |

It seems that a lot of people don't use that tool... how else do you do batch updates of inventory?

Hi Aaron,
Did you do the hairdirect.com site. If so, how did you get the tabbed mini display down at the bottom?
Thanks,
Derek |
