How can we make one of the available shipping methods be selected by default on the checkout page?

In this BVC5 SP2 store, we are using the one page checkout & Andy's shipping rate rule providers.

We are asking because we have a significant number of incomplete orders due to customers failing to click one of the radio buttons for a shipping method - despite a *BIG* sign pointing out that it is necessary.

Thanks,

Linette

Linette,

Customers should not be able to checkout without clicking one of the options -- *one* shipping method should be required, even if it is $0.00 -- if you are using Andy's ship rate add-on you can build in a rule that says if the shipping rate is $0, then some other action is taken (like Hide This Method)

Correct, they cannot checkout. They incorrectly assume the store isn't working, give up, and move on. Hence, sales lost.

I'm not sure you can do anything about those folks who don't know how to enter their address correctly -- I had one yesterday that decided to put "Florida" in the city box -- PayPal rejected the payment since the address didn't match. The page refreshes and tells them that a shipping method is required -- if they miss it -- and I agree the note is too small -- it needs to be a javascript popup -- but if they miss it, we can't hold their hands.

Linette,

This would be easy to change to a javascript popup. Feel free to contact us if you need assistance.

I don't want a pop-up. Just want to set a default shipping method.

Thanks anyway.

But that won't help you if they don't put a proper zip code or state -- it will still show $0.00. With Andy's add on, you can set a default method to show up, but without proper address info, it still won't return a rate -- unless you have a default shipping method that is based on dollar amount in the order or some other non-carrier function.
