I'm implementing a store with bv5.5 where a products price is indicated based on its size, i.e. a sheets of metal are prices based on square footage. Is there any way to implement this? Im guessing I would have to do some heavy customization but would like to know the best place to start and the best path to follow. does anyone have any experience with this or know how to do this? is this even possible in bv?

We've tried this on a few sites where price is based on length. We set the base price at the minimum size. QTY = length/size.
It doesn't really work well. Specially if pricing is discounted or increases as the size gets larger. What did work was adding all of the individual sizes as individual items. no complaints, no confusion.
Hundreds of items, but the simple list display and a manual sort paid off. Mentioned on each product page and the category page that if a custom size is needed to call to order.
Not the best solution but works for my client and I. |

I do about the same as Matt says. I make custom picture frames and they're priced by the running inch after a base price. http://www.missionfurnis...e-rails__MAS801slim.aspxThis won't work for calculating sq. units... you could get orders for: 2 x 20 = 40 sq. in. = 44 running inches or 4 x 10 = 40 sq. in. = 28 running inches There was a guy on the forum about 18 months ago trying to get something going for sign banners, but I think the site is down/gone. He had it running, but I don't know what he used. |
