On the recommend on some users of this forum I commisioned Satya to code a payment module for BV. I paid a $1000 deposite back in December, I've had some communication with him but not seen anything at all. Apparently due to 'personal problems' he has not progressed as quickly as he expected (3 months for payment gateway is pretty steady progress) but I've not been able to contact him for over 2 weeks. Does anyone here deal with Satya and if they do can they explain to me what's happening and whether I'm likely to ever get my payment module or my $1000 back?

This is my second bad experience of using a long distance programmer and I'm gutted. I just wanted to be able to take payments properly through BV, our PROTX/SagePay gateway crashes for nearly all international customers and is costing us thousands (and a bad image).

I look forward to hearing from you all!

Matt, I can't comment about Satya as I have no personal experience of him or his work.

That said, back in the bad ol' SF days, I also got burnt with a long distance developer (and I mean really long distance as I'm in Australia) who took a deposit and never delivered.

Despite this, when I needed work done on our BV stores I ended up going with Aaron and the guys at Develisys rather than a local as BV experience down here is fairly limited.

The results were a revelation...on time, fair pricing, on budget, great support. I trust these guys as they have proven to be reliable and professional. For example, now, just to cover occasional ad-hoc small pieces of work as & when they arise, I haved paid in advance (both of us were getting killed on international bank fees & charges for small invoices) and they draw down as I get them to do stuff...that was my choice and it works for me and Develisys.

BTW, they built me a great payment module capable of handling different currencies from scratch and it was much faster than 3 months.

Just my 2 cents.

Hello,
Let me put the word of protection for outsource developers as I’m one of them. I know there are lot’s of people who do not comply with the terms and I do understand that most people afraid of using outsource developers. I personally had different experience working with them and I found some solution that suits me and my clients. First I do not ask for prepayment, people have to pay only when the work is done. When it’s done I’m showing the results to my clients so they can check out and make sure it works. If they found it workable then they need to pay me in any way convenient for them: credit card, pay pal, wire transfer or check. And after payment receiving I’m sending the results to the clients. I called this model “risk sharing”. First, I take the risk of disappearing of the client and then the client takes the risk that I will not send the files to him so we are even. I think you can to try to use this model working with abroad developers.
Regards
Dmitri

Hi Guys,

I did approach Develisys, Aaron was helpful but explained they were too busy for a relatively small project otherwise I would have gone with them. Dmitri; you're right, it can work well and I'm not trying to tar the reputation of outsourcing programming, it's worked for me in the past to. I've managed to get in touch with Satya who has explained that he's been ill and I'll take him on faith with that (as we must when we are other sides of the world). Hopefully I'll get my payment module, stop losing sales and Satya will get the balance for his work.

I worked with Satya for over a year on numerous projects... her was very reliable and trustworthy. I recently tried to contact him again and the email bounced back, thus I'm thinking he may not be in the industry any more. Bummer about the $1000.
