I'm having trouble tracking my inventory accurately. I set a product to a certain number and then a while later, a new number (usually in the thousands) appears in the inventory box and allows customers to purchase.
Does this have something to do with people putting items in their shopping cart but not buying?
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Mindy,
I have the reverse problem. I add stock to products and days or hours later the stock is gone but there were no orders for those products.
It's very anyoing and I can't reproduce it consistenly so I did not report it (yet).

Try going to your inventory settings in your options tab and set "Reserve Inventory On" to "Order Saved". Then go in and clear out all the shopping carts. Then adjust your inventories to the right number and see what happens.

If your "Reserve Inventory on" was set to "Add to Cart" then any time someone adds a product to cart, it drops your inventory. When the items in the carts expire, the quantities may or should be added back to the inventory. In other words your inventory will bounce up and down from the real value sometimes exceeding what you started with (if you make adjustments to it as you go along).

If your inventory was set to "Order Saved" then I have no clue what is going on. Hope this helps.

Corneliu, is your setting for "Reserve Inventory On" set to "Add To Cart"? If so, this will take items out of inventory when they are added to the cart and return them when the cart is deleted.

Mine is set now for "Order Saved" as per Bob's recommandation. I think I had it the other way around for a while.
I'll monitor it closely now to see if it happends again.
Thanks,
Corneliu.

Thanks for your replies! Forgive my ignorance but I can't find the options tab so that I can change the inventory is set up. Can someone tell me where that is? I have BV 2004.

Thanks!

Mindy, you're in the wrong forum. :)

In BVC 2004, you're looking for the Settings tab, then the Inventory Notices link.
