Only show Customer Choices which are "In Stock" (Inventory > 0)

I am new to BVC5. We are building a clothing store and are using shared choices for shirt sizes S, M, L, XL, XXL. We are also tracking inventory on these items.
So on one of our products we don't have size S or XXL, so on the product edit page, I clicked on "Edit Customer Choices", deselected S and XXL and pressed save.
But when I view the product online, those sizes still show up in the dropdownlist. How come? Is this by design or is it a bug? How can I modify this so that a product will only show choices that are enabled?
Further more, how can I set it up so that customer choices will only show in the dropdownlist if there is available inventory? |

Yes, I was wondering the same... If they do choose something out of stock, it shows the out of stock message, but that doesn't go away if they select something that is in stock...
I would love for the sizes not to show up if we don't want them to. |

create new product with 2 unique and new choices, each a drop down list , each with 3 options.
i get 18 choicecombinations in the db. product seems to work as expected. in admin, I close the product. I then open the product to edit. I click customer choices, then edit customer choices, both on the left menu. i uncheck 1 of the items [item1multichoicetest1 item1multichoicetest2] and click save changes. now, i return as customer in new browser and select the unavailable combination. once i select this unavailable combination, any following changes to either drop down list does not change the sku, pricing, description, etc.
can you repeat this and confirm?

Scott,
I think you are saying the same thing I tried to say. If someone selects an unavailable, there is really no way to get out of it. You have to refresh the page. |

Angela,
I am saying that the system
a) displays all theoretically possible combinations regardless if you have unselected or removed the combination
b) once you select an unavailable combination, the system no longer allows you to select available combinations

Yes, both of those things are what I've noticed too unfortunately, hopefully this will be looked at for a future service pack. |

The issue here is that these combo boxes form choices based on all of their selections, not just one of them. Let me create an example to show you what I mean...
Say you have a shirt that is small, medium, and large. and comes in red and blue. So you have small red, small blue, medium red, medium blue, large red and large blue. Well, if the medium blue goes out of stock, then we still have to display medium because red (or some other color) could be in stock for that size.
The only way in which to remove them from the drop down list would be to limit the number of choices on a product to 1, and that would not go over well with most of our customers.
We will look at seeing in the future if we can remove items from the list if a product only has one choice assigned to it, but I do not know what kind of technical issues could arise in making such a change. |

Some carts have "Steps". Step 1, choose Color. Then only the sizes in that color show up. Not sure how complicated that would be for more than 2 steps... I think this site gave me that idea: http://www.motherwear.com/One thing I need to do is to let the customer "View Inventory", it is one of our most popular features to see how many things are in stock. Hopefully I can build this myself, just a link that will pop open a window that will show all combinations and available inventory. |

Using Anthem it is very easy to implement steps that look very natural. |

I'm no longer an up-to-date programmer (stopped programming a few years ago), would it be easy for me to figure out how to use Anthem to get my inventory to show up or to dynamically show the products choices? |

Hello Angela,
Although I think you in particular would find it pretty easy, I was really hinting to Justin. Product choices are rendered dynamically which means that the code would need to render Anthem versions instead of plain ASP.NET versions (very easy...one word change). But deciding which choices were linked would require some admin UI changes which are better done by Justin, et al. |
